It takes almost all Shure styli plus some others. (M91 and 93 are the same and sometimes come with the clip monut as well) I´d recommend a Shure M75 with the metal- clip- mount. If yor TT has an interchangeable headshell, get a second cartridge that you wire to mono. In both cases the "stereo-signals" which are only crackles, pops and rumble are considerably quieter. The most simple thing to get a mono- cartridge, is to connect both channels in parallel.Ī mono- switch on the amplifier does the same. Nothing "audiophile" but very musical even more so. Hence here the stylus special dedicated cut and width. And with a large conical stylus when it comes to 45rpm's and even lager for 78rpm's records. Going for a more worthy like rewarding rendition of the old MONO groove with a low compliant cart for better tracking. Likely on another tonearm/turntable combo altogether then. Or get a MONO switch device between your turtable and amp/preamp to operate that.Ī dedicated MONO cartridge makes more sense if one is listening to a lot of MONO records. That way all you'll have to do is to swap them headshells and carts as you wish. Maybe get a spare cart and headshell like the one you have now and bridge it into MONO. Now I do dee-jay out from time to time and have my Shure M44-7 dee-jay carts that I've DIY'ed bridged into MONO by interconnecting the 'cold' pins of the carts together and the 'hot' ones as well. Am a MONO kinda guy so I'm kind of fussy on my MONO playback expectation. And even the overall coherence of the music retrieval will be affected by a less coherent signal. As the STEREO cartridge's vertical picked-up signal from the MONO groove will show as 'polution' in the playback rendition. Although the playback of a MONO record with a STEREO cartridge will evidently prove to sound "dirty" and maybe "messy" in comparison. There also seem to be some high end offerings as well, but I need to stay in a budget. Most of my searches seem to point me to 78 rpm units and that's not what I am looking for. I do see a few a few offerings at Lpgear for an AT cartridge for $129 and a couple of Grado and an Ortofon offering as well. I do read that the best reproduction of these recordings is with a dedicated mono cartridge, and if this is so, what would be recommended? I've seen a few offerings of LP's at local thrift stores and a used record shop near me that could be interesting but hesitated to buy them because of my doubts. Some them are mono and I wondered if they are safe to play with with my assortment of elliptical and microline cartridges? I fully understand the differences between the 2 types of recording as a mono recording is mainly a horizontal, side to side deflection where as stereo adds a vertical defection as well. My haikus suck, but them's the rules, apparently.I have a few older records, some recently picked up (Patty Page), and a few that belonged to my late Mom. Thoughts anyone? Your feedback is appreciated, and I'll update this main post as I go. I may end up getting some of this stuff anyway, as it's not like it'll go bad and I can try and sell anything I don't use. I just don't know if this is a good idea and worth pursuing. I have a power jack outside I'd use to power the whole thing. Ideally, I'd get a waterproof project box to put it all in and maybe even install some jacks into it to further increase the water resistance of it, and ideally wouldn't be leaving the speakers outside permanently, as that may just overcomplicate the whole thing. I'm not opposed to switching this setup, but thought about getting some feedback before purchasing. I'm looking for suggestions on what you think could work for this. The speakers are going to be bluetooth ones with an aux in so they are powered and have some kind of amp in them, though I'm not sure these are the best ones. The logic here is eventually I'll set it up so the chromecast part can stay outside and the speakers and loose cabling will be in and out.
